Helmut Lang “Logo Hack” by Slava Mogutin
Helmut Lang continues it’s ‘Logo Hack’ series with New York-based multimedia Russian artist Slava Mogutin. Two works titled ‘Helmut Go-Go’ and ‘Stock Boyz’ are seen across a series of tee shirts, sweaters and sheer nylons.
‘Helmut Go-Go’, Slava’s take on the ‘Logo Hack’, celebrates the work of a photo series featured in Slava’s 2017 book Bros and Brosephines, which documents NYC Go-Go boys wearing Helmut Lang collections. The title design created in collaboration with Slava’s art director Jan Wandrag is appropriated through its hyper-masculine placement on the garments mirrored from mechanics and contractor’s uniforms. Inspired by the ideas of uniform dressing, 1-833-HELL-YES (1-833-4355-937) is printed alongside the graphics and invites consumers and fans to call and explore a series of prompts recorded by Slava himself, which is live now.
‘Stock Boyz’ which serves as an extension of Slava and Jan’s ‘Logo Hack’ features images from Slava’s original work with the same title from 2008. Youthful male wrestlers playfully posture in macho caricatures, their portraits superimposed on the aggressively male-dominated world of financial stock reports.
