Helmut Lang Launches the Taxi Capsule Collection
In 1998, Helmut Lang became the first fashion designer in history to advertise on the top of New York City yellow taxis, integrating the brand into the foundation of the city. As part of the brand’s continued evolution, 275 taxis emblazoned with Helmut Lang’s advertisement are now recirculating the city and engaging a new audience with the brand’s iconic history.
Helmut Lang created three limited-edition pieces to pay homage to this historical moment, and each piece features an archival Helmut Lang taxi top image taken by Iain R. Webb, dated September 2000, originally published in the book Postcards From the Edge of the Catwalk. An accompanying editorial, shot by Alex Lee, captures three New York City taxi drivers at a taxi body shop in Long Island City, Queens.
