Helmut Lang Fall/Winter 2019 Show
Helmut Lang AW19 is a potent evolution of the fundamental codes of the brand. Mark Thomas (Creative Director women’s and men’s) and Thomas Cawson (Creative Director jeans) have created a new Helmut Lang wardrobe defined by precision luxury items for women and men.
Led by tailoring inspired by the suiting of artist Joseph Beuys, shown in sartorial fabrics like grey wool flannel and lava melton wool as well as polished black leather and double-faced white viscose, Helmut Lang AW19 makes tailoring’s indispensable place clear in the brand’s lexicon. Military parkas are re-contextualized for women in cream wool and silk fringe that emulates fur and in transparent rubber polyurethane for men. Transparency infiltrates all aspects of AW19 in the form of organza shirting and trousers, weightless nylon tank-tops and sheer t-shirts.
Helmut Lang jeans, offered in a new series of fits that blur the gender binary, are shown in hard-wearing Italian indigo and stonewashed denim. Classic jeans silhouettes like the trucker jacket and the five-pocket are subtly subverted by their fabrication in grey heritage wool felt and high-def workwear twill in bright pink.
During the last year, Helmut Lang has honed and sharpened its focus and product offering, relocating key aspects of textile development and clothing production to leading factories in Italy which has refined and redefined the fabrications and development of the clothing.
